FYBAGLAZE GRP glazing products are among the toughest glazing panels available.  Manufactured using high quality resins and fibreglass they’re virtually indestructible, with a high resistance to impact, wind loading, shock and manual attack.

Special U.V. protection comes as standard, whilst the panels can also be made to meet Class II or Class 1/0 fire ratings.

Impact Resistant, Anti-Vandal Glazing

General Description

Nominal Weight of Panel

FybaGlaze panels are possibly the toughest impact resistant glazing materials available.  Panels are virtually unbreakable and have a high resistance to impact, shock and wind loading whilst maintaining an aesthetic appearance.

Panel Size and Thickness

Standard product range can be manufactured to  any thickness from 2mm to 30mm.  As this is a handmade product, containing various raw materials, tolerances apply which may vary depending on the specifications ordered.

Fire Resistance

Products can be manufactured to either:

Fact:

Unlike other “Plastic” glazing products GRP will not drip, melt or soften in the event of fire.  For an explanation of the different ratings “click here

Thermal Conductivity:   0.2w/mK

Tensile Strength:            100MPa

Tensile Modulus:            8GPa

Flexural Strength:    170 MPa

Will not bend or flex as much as other glazing products.

Graffiti Resistance

A factory applied coating operation permits simple removal of graffiti with no detrimental surface effects to the panel.

Surface Finishes

Standard surface finishes include:

  • Smooth / Crinkle
  • Smooth / Smooth (above 5mm thick)

Thermal Co-Efficient of Expansion

30 x 10^(-6) /Deg C
Note: Compared with many other plastics GRP has minimal expansion and contraction characteristics and will not bow and warp in extremes of temperature.

Impact Resistance

Impact resistant to BS 5544 (cert #: 395-1) and Regulation 14 compliant.
Note: Steel ball drop test concluded no penetration for breakage of GRP glazing.

U.V./Light Transmission

Up to 83% depending on thickness and surface texture.
Note: The inclusion of our unique surface protection membrane significantly enhances the quality, appearance and lifespan of FybaGlaze products by providing a high level of U.V. resistance, thus ensuring continued light transmission.

Size and Thickness

FybaGard / FybaLyte:  Panels can be manufactured to 5m long with a width restriction of 1525mm.  Can be manufactured from 3mm – 25mm with 3, 4 and 6mm being “standard”.
FybaMesh:   Restricted to a maximum of 8′ x 4′ (1220mm x 2440mm) sheets or any derivative within these sizes.  Can be manufactured from 3mm – 25mm with 3, 4 and 6mm being “standard”.

Cutting and Handling

FybaGard / FybaLyte:   Jig saw, bench saw (using diamond tipped blade) or guillotine.

FybaMesh:   Guillotine abrasive disc or jig saw using metal cutting blade.

All should be cut in well ventilated area using gloves, eye protection and dust particle masks.

1.

Salisbury Railway Station

In early June 2013 Spence were tasked with refurbishing the 19thC impact resistant canopies at Salisbury Station.  The company they subcontracted were instructed to install FybaGard fire retardant GRP panels.

Over a period of months Smyth Composites delivered over 900 panels amounting to just over 1000m2.  FybaGard GRP was chosen as the preferred glazing panel due to is excellent anti-UV properties as well as its inherent strength, durability and authentic Georgian wire appearance.

2.

Inverness Railway Station

A major roof refurbishment took place at Inverness station in 2011 where broken and cracked Georgian wired cast glazing was replaced by GRP FybaGard manufactured by Smyth Composites.

One particularly challenging aspect of this order was that 160 of these panels were 4.2mtrs long, but Smyth Composites were able to rise to the challenge and provide them to the customer’s satisfaction.
