Underground Certification
London Underground Limited Standard Number 2 - 01001 – 002 Fire safety performance for materials.
The toxic fume emission requirements detailed in LUL standard 2-01001-001:A1, section 5.2.3, deals with the chemical composition that is required for materials with respect to Toxic Fume Emission Requirements.
Test results show, that Phenclad GRP has achieved class ‘0’ rating when tested in accordance with BS576: parts 6&7 and has met the smoke emission requirements of above LUL standard.
Details:
Toxicity quantitative analysis has shown that Phenclad GRP contains 0.91% weight/weight sulphur; this amount of sulphur is regarded as above trace level. Therefore toxic fume emission calculations base don all sulphur converting to sulphur dioxide was carried to determine safe amount that can be used in specific locations.
Toxic fume emission calculations based on assumption that there is 100% conversion of sulphur to sulphur dioxide (SO2) show that the amount of SO2 dispersed into the respective dispersal volumes will not exceed the IDLH required value of 50ppm provided the limits in table 1 below are not exceeded.
Sample Maximum Allowable (g) Locations
Phenclad GRP 5000g / 1.25m2 area Stations inc Platforms
Phenclad GRP 1400g / 1.25m2 area Tunnels
Phenclad GRP 715g / 0.5m2 area Rolling Stock
